About Me
Why I became a psychologist?
Hi there, my name is Chandini Reddy. I am a registered counselling psychologist who is here to support you through life’s ups and downs, and to assist you in taking what can sometimes feel like a tumultuous walk of life.
I completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Johannesburg. This is where I gained knowledge and experience in working with a variety of therapeutic modalities, doing crisis management, and conducting psychological assessments. I find that providing an integrated approach, tailored to the client as a unique individual, is the best way to tackle various aspects of what may show up in therapy for you. This may look like a combination of cognitive-behavioural therapy techniques as well as a deep exploration into ones’ past and how it has shaped your present, using psychodynamic theory.
What Makes Me Different?
I, myself, have found much healing in attending therapy sessions of my own. I have struggled with symptoms of anxiety and depression and had faced my own identity crisis in my early 20s. Additionally, my cultural background gives me a unique perspective on what it means to be an Indian woman in South Africa and of the social constructs that come with that. Resultantly, I have a deep appreciation for people’s unique challenges and differences, and the fact that it makes us the person that we are – someone that is worth embracing, worth understanding, and worth loving. I empathise with how uncomfortable it can be to be vulnerable and to allow yourself to get to know the real you, but it is through therapy that I gained a deeper knowledge of myself – now knowing her as someone who does have a voice, who’s sensitivity is not her weakness, and who does have a place to just be in this modern world.
My Goals & Priorities
My priority on this journey with you is to ensure that you feel heard, seen and supported. Along with this, I will assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself in order to develop a greater sense of self-awareness, which could assist you in confidently navigating the world around you. Together we can discover your strengths and work towards how those can be used to improve your overall well-being, and day to day life.
